I have been tractor shopping for a few months now and really like the Kubota 3130. I was wondering about transmission preferences--the glide shift or the gear drive, I'm really not that interested in a hst. Tractor use=some brush hog and fel work on 6 acres mostly wooded sloping land (about 15%grade),occasional use of post hole digger, snow removal with rear blade on 1 mile paved driveway that has some steep sections and tight turns. I live in Virginia so average snowfall is around 4-6".
I know this isn't related to my question but I was qouted:L3130DT w/FEL=$16265, L3130GST w/FEL=$17478, L3130HST w/FEL$18,000. I have also been seriously looking at the Century 2535w/FEL=16500.

I am taking a wild guess here, but I would suspect that Kubota sells about 60% hydro, 30% GST and 10% gear. I would rethink the hydro. If you still decide against it - I would go for the GST. Not as easy to use as the hydro but better than gear. The Century is one heck of a tractor, I'm surprised at the price, kinda high for a 2535. I just purchased a 3045 that should be delivered soon. Your prices for the Kubota are very good. You don't mention the loader model, I think 723 is the one you should be getting.
Good Luck

I have a DT and wish I had upgraded to a different transmission system. While a lot of my frustration is likely operator related, the other systems seem like they would be much more efficient. However, this could also be a case where everything on the other side of the fence appears greener....

I looked at both and got the L3130HST. I have now put about 30 hours on it. I have planted about 220 trees, bushhogged about 2 acres, and leveled my 2000'+ driveway. The HST is worth the money for me. I generally stay in M and only adjust the throttle and the peddle. My wife uses my tractor some and she loves the HST - not hard to learn or to use. ....

For your uses, go glideshift. It's not quite what the hydro is for the loader work but does give you a hydraulic shuttle vs gear. IE: less clutch replacement! ....

Thanks to everyone for their input. I settled on the GST and is setting in the driveway. Will get back with you in a couple of months and let you know how I like it. Have already moved a couple buckets of dirt (first time I have ever ran a tractor let alone a loader and was moving dirt within 10 minutes of seat time), I wasn't very efficient but got the job done. The only thing I will have to correct or get used to is that when I am on a slope and change direction from reverse to forward I drift farther back than I am really comfortable with. I think I just need to get used to the throttle, shifting and such.
My neighbor had a New Holland CUT delivered the same day so can't wait to do some comparing. ....

I bought A 3010dt with a FEL last year and it works well for me. I use a 72" tiller and 5ft bush hog and wanted the Independent PTo and the one or two extra HP at the PTO.

The HST at that time was only Live PTO. I didn't really want the HST and thought the GST would be best for me, but the local dealers advised against the GST. They implied that there would be more repairs. I think many operators may be too agressive shifting the GST, which tends to be jerky at higher speeds. The clutching helps smooth out those jerks with the DT. I didn't really see that much difference in the GST and DT during test drives.

The HST would be better for those doing a lot of FEL work. I have learned to use the FEL without riding the clutch. I probably go slower than those with the HST would do. Also, the HST is easier to use on hills. Changing Directions on a hill with the DT takes some care.

I like being able to put the tractor in a gear and knowing exactly what speed it will be going when doing PTO work, which is what you get with the DT. ....

I'm strongly considering a Kubota L3130 DT with FST tranny, 723 loader with quick attach and diamond plate canopy.
Can you give me some pros and cons on the L3130?

My L3130 has done everything I expected from it. I also have the DT model. It was less expensive to buy and most likely less expensive to repair it if that is ever necessary. If you are very comfortable with a clutch then the DT model will probably work out for you. If you're not, you may want to upgrade to an HST or GST.
